As you’d expect, an absurd game like Sunset Overdrive features an equally absurd plot. It’s a liberating game that trades in rules and drama for freedom and pure unadulterated enjoyment, and Sunset Overdrive never pretends to be anything but an excuse to swear like a sailor, jump off of a skyscraper, and blow up a gang of monsters. I understand that they wanted you to feel like you were using Ratchet, his name is on the game, but I feel like they missed an opportunity to put some new mechanics in the game, give her some guns that are unique to her, give her her own puzzles to solve. I do not have a lot to say negatively about game, however, I was disappointed with the way the new character (Rivet) is used. I will say that I did experience a few bugs, the most common was the game not closing the menu on the guns after I previewed weapons, but I am sure that will be patched up. My PS5 can be turned off and I can be playing this game with 20 secs of turning it on, less than 10 if in rest mode. It delivers on the next Gen graphics and next-Gen speed. The amount of things going on in this game at one time, and for there to be no framerate drops ever is worth the price of admission. So I played with the best graphics I could, and they were incredible. Personally, I do not believe that this game needs 60 FPS as I really could not tell the difference between the two modes when it came to how smooth it looked. After playing it in fidelity mode and performance mode, I came away very impressed with just how smooth this game plays. The game itself is about 10-12 hours long, with a challenge mode unlocked (new game plus) after you beat the story. It has very tight and fun gunplay, a great variety of weapons, good comic relief, and some exploration as well.
the R/C series has had a tried and true formula, that does not need to change very much. Let's say it right off the bat, this game does not reinvent the wheel, nor was it supposed to.
